Why this is so important to me

Last year, I underwent radioactive iodine treatment.

I swallowed a single capsule from a lead container and became radioactive. The two doctors assisting me—standing no closer than 2 metres and dressed in protective aprons—couldn’t wait to get away. I was “hot.”

For four days, I sat alone in a room with a yellow nuclear sign on the door, a constant reminder of my isolation. No one was allowed in, and I wasn’t allowed out. My meals were left at the door, and occasionally, a call would come through to check if I was 'okay'.

It was a challenging time, but I’m incredibly grateful to have had access to the Cancer Council’s resources during this experience. Their support made a difference for me, and now I’m determined to pay it forward in any way I can.

I'm taking on Cancer Council's The March Charge...

...a month-long fitness challenge to raise funds for world-class cancer research, prevention programs, and support services.

This year in Australia an estimated 162,000 people will hear the words "you have cancer", I'm doing my part to change this by getting active and fundraising for people impacted by cancer.

This past year, a good friend and I were both personally affected by cancer. This March, I’ll be teaming up with colleagues to raise funds for the incredible work the Cancer Council does in our community. As part of the effort, I’ll be focusing on my fitness by committing to a minimum of 10,000 steps a day.

Any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated, but there’s no pressure at all!
