My Reason and Journey

Our team and workplace are currently participating in the Cancer Council - The March Charge fundraiser. I want to thank you all for participating and encourage those who haven't to join up, as this holds a special place for me.

Back in 1999 I was diagnosed with a melanoma on my right shoulder. This was removed by a surgical team measuring at 5cm width and 8cm length. All my nerves in my right shoulder were removed and having a graft from my right Thigh meant I had a lengthy recovery. It took 6 months of recovery and physio to get back to normality. This included weekly checkups and bandage changes. Crutches for walking until I had my strength back in my leg and arm. Physio and strength building for my right arm and many emotional challenges.

I don't share this story because it was sad and hard, but because of how amazing it was that I received the support and care of medical professionals. Who we can now provide support to a cause that funds new treatments and surgeries for multiple types of cancer research. And even if it just moral support or loose change amounts, any support is good support.

So, I encourage anyone. If you have yet to sign up, please do so and be a part of this campaign.
