I'm taking on Cancer Council's The March Charge...

In March, I am embarking on a month-long fitness challenge to raise funds for world-class cancer research, prevention programs, and support services.

I think it’s about time that I share my story, for the first time.

In 2023, I had probably my 6th surgery on my ovaries, except this one ended up being a little different. For years and years, my routine ‘lady check’ came back abnormal, but not abnormal enough to push past the ‘we will just wait and see what the next one says’. Well, the next abnormal one I pushed to be looked at during my ovary surgery, lucky I did.

My post surgery check up, the usual ‘ovary surgery went well, we removed adhesions & some cysts. Just waiting on your results from your cervix, just wait in the waiting room I’ll call and get them over’.

After the longest 5 minute wait ever I was hit with the ‘so we found something in your cervix’. To be honest, my mind went pretty blank after that. Thankfully, after all the medical terms and chit chat, I was assured that the entire cancer tissue had been removed and I should be okay with check ups every few months.

Whilst every months check up is scary and unpredictable, I can still sit here and say I am one of the lucky ones that got it early enough, that it didn’t end up how it does for some many other people. I can’t even imagine my 10 minutes of being what felt like punched in the ovaries, is a reality for so many.

So, I’m doing this for the ones who aren’t as lucky as I was.
