It's World Cancer Day

04 Feb 2023

3 things you need to know this World Cancer Day

1. From 2020 - 2044, it's predicted that the overall rate of people dying of cancer will fall by around 20%

This fall will be largely driven by established prevention approaches – such as tobacco control and sun protection, as well as improved early detection and treatments for these cancers.

2. However, the total number of people dying of cancer in Australia is set to increase

A study by the Daffodil Centre projects that a staggering 4.56 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in total over the next 25 years. That's an increase of 47% compared to the previous 25 years. Australia's ageing and growing population are the main drivers behind these increases.

3. Greater investment is urgently needed in cancer prevention and screening

While these figures may seem overwhelming, we know from other research findings that tens of thousands of additional lives could be saved through established interventions and many more through prioritised research investment.

I’m taking part in Cancer Council’s The March Charge, a month-long fitness challenge to get active for 31 days and raise funds to tell cancer where to go. My goal is to smash (Insert KM goal) KMs!

I’d love any support you can give to help me reach my fundraising goal of $[insert fundraising goal]. Every dollar raised will go towards life-saving cancer prevention, screening, and research. All of us can make a difference!
